Glass and glass panes

Introduction

The Glass and Glass Panes are similar in function therefore on this page we will use the word glass to talk about them, do note that everything on this page can be applied to both.

Glass filters lasers colors according to their own color.

Glass blocks vs Glass panes: While both filter laser colors when a laser passes straight through them, they behave differently at diagonal edges. See Diagonal edge behavior below.

How to place a Glass?

Glass is not strictly a component. In fact, they are Minecraft's native blocks. This means that, although they can be placed using the following procedure, they can also be place like any other Minecraft block.

  • Open Lasers-Enigma main shortcut bar by typing the /lasers command.
  • Aim for the block on which you want to place the component. This can be on the floor, ceiling, or wall. Then right-click with the "place component" button in hand.
  • Select the glass or the glass pane.
  • Select the glass color.

Interactions

Laser Interaction

This component will filter incoming lasers colors according to the glass Color. See Color filtering chapter in Colors page for details.

Diagonal edge behavior

When a laser travels diagonally and crosses the edge or corner between two blocks, glass blocks (full blocks) and glass panes behave differently:

  • Glass blocks (stained glass): When placed at a diagonal edge alongside another solid block, the glass block filters the laser color before letting it pass. If multiple glass blocks of different colors are present at the same edge, their colors are merged (additive) before the filter is applied. A white glass block lets all colors pass, while a black glass block absorbs the laser entirely.

  • Glass panes (stained glass panes): Because glass panes are thin (1/16 block width), they are treated as crossable at diagonal edges — the laser passes through freely as if the pane were not there, without color filtering.

See Lasers interaction — Diagonal edge and corner behavior for the general rules.

Other Components Interactions

The glass has no direct interactions with other components.

The laser that has passed through the glass has a lot of interactions with other components. You can find a summary of those interactions on the lasers interaction wiki page.
