2026-06-04 โ€” Lobby build & sub-lobby structure

Decisions from the 2026-06-04 design session, covering the lobby build, the Solo/Duo sub-lobby structure and the Duo variant. The chapter sub-sub-lobby is still under discussion.

Lobby (build)โ€‹

Decision: Keep the build made by Loumardes, but improve it further. To do so:

  • Copy/paste one of the rooms next to it.
  • Contact builders (the Environment Art channel of the Skytale Discord) and have them improve the copied room as follows:
    • Break the square shape.
    • Add detail.
    • Try to keep minimal coherence between this new lobby and the old one.
    • Aim for a "wow" effect.
  • Ask Loumardes to recopy the modified room in place of the N existing rooms.

Solo/Duo sub-lobby (chapter selection)โ€‹

Decision: Have a circular space containing chapters. Chapters do not necessarily map to a single mechanic; they represent a difficulty level rather than a mechanic.

Alternatives considered:

  • A corridor with a mechanic introduction + access to a sub-hub to deepen that mechanic โ€” rejected.
    • For: people need several consecutive levels to consolidate their understanding of a mechanic.
    • Against: very rigid / professorial / tutorial / demo-like.

Consequences:

  • The circular shape prevents automatic extensibility, i.e. there will be no commands such as /. lobby increase/decrease.
  • The shape will be like HUB_LIGHT_CIRCLE room template
  • The build will be more like the one of the old lobby or the new one (coherence)

Duo sub-lobby (chapter selection)โ€‹

Decision: Same as the Solo sub-lobby, but with slight color differences so players can visually distinguish the Solo sub-lobby from the Duo sub-lobby.

Chapter sub-sub-lobby (level selection)โ€‹
