Roadmap

This page is the single shared reference for prioritising work on Lasers-Enigma — across code and everything around it (game design, level design, communication, community and team). It turns the project's objectives into a sequenced plan so contributors, candidates and maintainers all share the same picture of where the project is going.

It is a living document: priorities shift as the team grows and items ship. When in doubt about what to work on next, contact us on Discord.


🟢 Now

Team & coordination

  • Project coordinator — a trusted contributor to drive the non-code side of the project: team coordination, planning, and most of the items on this roadmap. The maintainer supports, trains and advises, but the coordinator owns the day-to-day of these topics. Profile we're looking for: responsible, honest, persevering, available, involved, and aligned with the project's values. (see #739)
  • Recruitment lead — grow the team across every role below.

Game design

  • Difficulty curve & campaigns — reorganise the existing levels into a solo campaign and a duo campaign (while keeping the community levels), to give players a smoother difficulty progression. Two game designers are already working on this, with limited availability.

External communication

  • Level-design tutorials — teach contributors how to build levels (rushes already recorded).
  • Shorts & trailer — short promotional videos and a project trailer (one short already in progress).

🟡 Short term

Level design

  • Additional levels — create new levels, notably to fill the gaps in the difficulty curve. Builds on the campaign structure defined above.

Team & coordination

  • Internal communication — keep the team alive and make sure people communicate with each other. Scales up once the coordinator is in place.

Development

  • Maintenance & evolution — ongoing bug fixes and feature work on the plugin.

External communication

  • Event-creation tutorials — teach how to build events with the Race Builder.
  • Campaign solutions — published walkthroughs for the campaigns, once they exist.

🔵 Later

Development

  • Open level creation to everyone — let any contributor build levels, granting rights up to command blocks (with the risks that implies), possibly through temporary server instances. Depends on the tutorials and on the supporting infrastructure.

Development & game design

  • Events — organise in-game events. Depends on the Race Builder tutorials and on available people.

External communication

  • Changelog videos — recurring video changelogs on YouTube.
  • Twitch stream — live streaming of the project.

Moderation

  • Moderation — grows alongside the community and the events.
